Great write up! Can you post a pic of the headlight switch with fogs? Does it take much to swap out the switch?

Just imagine the same switch you already have, except now you can push the center of the circular knob and turn on the fogs. Swapping the switches can be done in a couple minutes or less. Simply remove the fuse panel by where the drivers left leg would be, then use that access hole to reach up and push in the tabs on both sides of the existing switch while pushing the existing switch out toward the seat. unplug old, plug in new, and push it back into the switch port until it clicks into place. Done.

Primo - I'm calling the stealership today to get a package price. I'd like to get fogs on as soon as the weather breaks.I'm not crazy enough to do this in the cold and snow.

So the stealership meets all my expectations...
They show a light kit on their computer (part #95950429), but its not in inventory - $275.08 CDN as parts or $528.83 installed. But here's the kicker, they don't know if that is the complete install, just the lamps or just one side. I'd have to order it to find out.

Going piecemeal, and using your part numbers, the harness (95211317) is $79.03 CDN and switch (96892114) is $42.79.
According to the parts tech they can only flash the BCM if the parts are bought there.
I am tempted to order the harness and switch now, then put in lamps in the spring once the weather is more amenable. I'm sure if I put a watch in at the local crash-lot I can get a pair out of a rear-end crash. Anyways, thanks for the info!

Here is a link to solve all your issues. It's the same thing that I bought. Here are three ways you can get it done at three different costs.
1. You can install it yourself with any number of tutorials if you wish, then take the BCM authorization number to any Chevy dealer and pay them an hour of tech time($85?) and have new GM fog lights for around $300.
2. Do what I did, install them yourself and then find some warranty reason for taking your Sonic into the dealer, be real nice when working with your service rep and ask them(while pulling the folded paper carrying your Auth# out of your pocket and unfolding in front of him) if they'd kindly flask the BCM with this authorization number so you can use the new fog lights you recently installed. This is the least expensive scenario, new GM fogs for appx. $205 installed.
3. Get a two quotes from the dealer to install your new GM fogs, one where you buy and bring in the fogs and one where they provide the fogs. Generally they quote a different labor rate with customer provided parts.
#3 is going to be your most expensive, and if you're gonna go that route, then I'd just buy everything through the dealer because if you're gonna spend that kind of cash you might as well have the entire job covered under your warranty.
#2 is the way to go if you're a decent backyard mechanic with average to above average people skills. The install isn't that tough, I had never done anything remotely like that in the past and mine turned out great. It's just like any other job; know what it is you have to do, have the proper tools before you start, allow yourself plenty of time to do the work so as to never feel stressed for time, and most important, TAKE YOUR TIME, relax and have a great time learning while you work!

Sadly, the exchange rate to Canuckistan sux right now, so that $204.00 part comes in at $256 once you do the exchange rate. Add shipping and brokerage fees at the border and the dealer is cheaper. Which I don't mind. I can handle supporting a local shop. I just wish they were a little more up front about this stuff instead of jerking me around.
I'll put an order in shortly. Likely aim for a spring install.

Good luck on the fogs install, look forward to seeing the end result. Also, make sure you have a set of these tools or similar before you start pulling anything apart, makes things much easier.

Those tool sets are awesome. I've used them often on other cars which were old and prone to vacuum leaks.

I'm excited to see them. You arew inspiring me to think about altering the car - something I've never thought of doing before.
(For instance, fog lights are ordered already, now I'm pondering plastidip for the housings before they're even installed)

I'd say get a little crazier than that. Those parts paint really well and what better time since they are shipped loose. Somewhere in my build thread is a link to the paint site I use, they color match perfectly, or you can get crazy with it. Then if you tire of it later, then plastidip.
I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'....

I'm toying with so many ideas right now, but never having done this and looking at costs all I keep coming back to is Aaaaack! Changing from stock with a 1.8 engine ruins resale!
But I kindof have this iridescent white on orange look in my head... Sortof a mother of pearl on white look. Yanno? But not looking like a construction vehicle either.
How badass would this look on Inferno orange?? But there would still be the 1.8 under the hood. :sadbanana:

The 1.4 is peppier but nothing wrong with a 1.8 if your not racing.

The fever still hasn't broke, still awaiting mods to arrive so I had to calm my nerves by ordering a silicon hose kit from DDMWorks this AM.
Going to FL for a couple weeks soon, so I'll post pics ASAP. I'm hoping to time everything well enough that I can have parts in paint/powdercoat while I'm gone so I can go balls to the wall on installs when I return. :banana:
Speaking of FL, I'm going to go thru Sonic withdrawal while there, so feel free to speak up if you're in the central Florida area and you'd like to take a fellow fanatic for a spin!!
