I went to an apartment complex that had a vertical gas heater in a hallway closet that was not working. The head of maintenance seemed nice but not very knowledgeable in the ways of troubleshooting issues.
He was right over my shoulder with every thing I did, which I do not mind, as I like teaching as well as repairing.
When I am sure it is repaired and get ready to fire it up, I stand back a bit from the front of the furnace on one side of the closet door and he is on the other side watching.
It is a glow plug system and that means the first thing that has to happen is the glow plug must warm up and eventually become almost white hot before the gas valve opens.
It usually takes a minute or so for all of this to get to that point.
As we stand there waiting on the plug to heat up he can not know his next move will be a very bad one !
(more to come)
