So the other day I went to the Wiki Wiki (car wash). It was one of those car washes where you send your car through the car wash and there is free vacuum to use after you get done. So after I got my car washed I vacuumed my car. I was cleaning the carpet in front of the driver seat and the vacuum got caught on a piece of carpet in the front center of carpet directly below the edge of the driver seat.
I was like, "Uh this ain't good". So I take a look and BAM! the inside of my car broke. I don't know exactly what piece of the car this is because I'm not a professional automotive technician. (I'm an amateur automotive technician
). So I take a look and there is some box thing a ma gig that has some wires connected to it and isn't connecting to the bottom of the car like it's supposed to. I figured since my car is only a month old I'd go to the Chevrolet dealer to ask them to figure out what broke. Supposedly it couldn't be fixed so they had to order a new part.
If anybody has a clue what this mechanism is let me know. I don't think it is a power seat motor because I have manual seats (sadly I don't have a manual transmission though). I was afraid that maybe it was the mechanism that detects if there is any weight in the seat to turn on/off the airbag sensor. That is why I decided it was time to bring to dealer. They ordered the part and hopefully I'll get it replaced in a week or two under warranty for free!
My suggestion for other Sonic owners is if you are tall like me (5'12") and have the seat slide back a good amount be careful vacuuming your car. Just vacuum your car with caution and try not to vacuum near the front center of the carpet in front of the driver seat. According to the receipt the dealer gave me it is a seat connector body harness, what that is I have no clue. But the part is on order.
