Intercooler sprayer for 5 bucks

Finally got around to posting the pics and explanation of how and what I did to make a custom intercooler sprayer on a RS... First you jack up/ support the front driver side of the car, remove tire, peel back wheel well to expose the bottom of the washer bottle... You should be able to see the motor, it has two lines coming off of it, one for the front, one for the hatch... I disabled the hatch one (on the right) and ran a new vac line to the front of the car where I Teed it off to two misters from a local sprinkler center... Vualla, custom sprayer when you "spray your hatch" it now sprays your cooler!

My only problem with this is now you have to choose between spraying washer fluid on your intercooler and spraying water to clean your windshield. Is there room under there for a second reservoir, by any chance?

No you don't. There is a different button for each.

Since I have deleted my rear wiper, I have an unused half of the wiper fluid system. I may be interested in doing this to cool down my pre stage temps.

I'm not at my car now, but IIRC there is a button on the end of the wiper stalk for the rear fluid.

I had a rear sprayer in my 2012 LT. I only used it to figure out how it worked.

This seems kind of brilliant actually. Question being, does it actually have any effect other than placebo... do we have some sort of sensor on the UG that can read a measurable temp change somewhere? More hp somewhere?

I have never used my rear wiper sprayer, so I would never notice its absence.

The easy way to test would be to log with and without the spray, and have Vince pull the post IC temp info..... IAT2 from the logs.

Any more than 2deg drop and I'd say its a winner.

I agree that this is a smart/resourceful mod if it works.

Yeah, but they're pumping out of the same reservoir. Whatever you use to wash your windshield is the same fluid you have to use to spray the IC.

Not bashing, BTW. This mod is awesome. I just want to take it a step further if possible.

We've been there and done that in EVO land. 03-04's came stock with IC sprayers. Threw that POS in the trash years ago and bought a good quality Aftermarket IC core

Its been tested, Dynoed, etc.. Useless gimmick IMO.

Now spray some NO2 or CO2 on the IC and you may see some post IC temps drop down

The idea is based on the latent heat of evaporation, not cold water.

As water goes from liquid to vapor it gobbles up large amounts of BTU'S. The wet surfaces on the Intercooler will allow the air passing to draw out much more heat energy as it carries the water away. So using something like windshield washer fluid with alcohol in it will evaporate faster than water... I autoX it, ran it, used a heat gun to measure the charge pipe, I know a lot of you will disagree with my place of measurement but it is a 40* difference before and after...

That's why this mod is so pleasantly simple.

I checked my 2012 LT HB, and yes, it does have a sprayer, if you can call it that, at any rate it trickles water down the center of the rear window on demand. Can't see ever using that, so if this mod really helps out, I'm gonna have to do some work.

I can't ever see using the rear wiper period. That's why I got rid of mine long ago.
