Intermittent AC on 2020 Sonic 1.4T

Hi all,

Just got a 2020 Chevy Sonic 1.4T and I'm running into an issue with the AC. On a hot day, when you turn the AC on the AC clutch never engages. But when it's cooler out (seemingly) the AC engages and blows ice cold. I've ruled out the AC clutch fuse- is there a failing sensor that could be causing this? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I'm not sure of the values for the Sonic but vehicle AC will kick and off at specific values related to the refrigerant and pressure and stuff. As its running, it has to be in that range to run (and put out cold air) and stay running. If the 1.4T is the 2020 4D hatchback? Then it may be min 32 PSI while running to reach cooling capability. It should be somewhere near there anyway. The cans you can buy at stores will add refrigerant and increase pressure when its added. Also note: too much pressure is also wrong, so don't get it wrong.

Personally, I'd check refrigerant and pressure first before anything. Make sure it reaches on pressure value. Could probably compare it with a cooler day where it kicks on and see if its same or not vs hot day. Or just run with gauge on hot day without putting refrigerant in and see if it reaches on value or not. Whatever works or both. Maybe a different problem will be seen while checking that.

I've seen someone have a similar problem with some other part I can't think of atm, so don't know if its this or something else.
