My battery died recently, so I went to get my jumper cables out of the back and apparently, there's no way to unlock the liftgate if the battery is dead!? I've searched this forum and found nothing. I watched a video about manually opening hatchback liftgates in general that indicated access point on the inside. On my Sonic (2015), there a little round piece of plastic that pulled which seems like it should be an access point, but I saw no apparent way to release the latch from in there. Is there truly no way to manually open the liftgate!? This seems like such a huge design flaw. Has anyone run into this and found a way to open it?

Yes, that is the spot. You need something like a large flat head screwdriver to put in and twist to unlatch.
