Just got my Ultra Gauge, anything I should know?

Just got it in the mail today, hooked it up and everything is setup and working as far as engine, and fuel tank size.

Anything I need to know on the fuel setup? should it be in smart mode? I thought I read that from eric somwhere.

Is there a setting to know when the electric fan comes on? I see the coolant temp but no fan alarm or anything. I guess if I were to set the alarm for the same temp as the fan that could work too.

I would love to see a good tutorial on setting up the UG for the Sonic. I asked a bunch of questions when I got mine, but the mods concatentated it into the vast 85 page long UG/SG thread and I didn't see one response. I loved it out of the box, but as I modded my Sonic more and more, it got more and more inaccurate.

One tip, go through and look at all the default alarms. I recall changing settings on several and eliminating at least one (the one that goes off when your battery charge is too high, seemed to go off nearly every day, and people here indicated this is standard behavior meaning nothing)

Regarding the link that PapaSonic posted on this thread... the only issue I've had with having my ScanGauge II (similar product to the UG), is the monthly OnStar reports show nothing other than 'aftermarket device connected to diagnostic port'. That report was worthless to me anyway.

I have had no issues with any other anomalies and I've had my ScanGauge plugged in 24/7 for the past 60 days.

We need eric to stop posting all the good info all over the forums on the UG and just put it in one FAQ or something.

He has lots of good stuff its just hard to use the search function with his name due to the volume of posts!

I have seen quite a few posts about certain Sonic specific things.

Like change the gas level to smart so it reads accurate, some stuff to do with the way torque is calculated.

What I might do is as I stumble across it again i will just update this thread.

Eric, how does your TPS signals read? I know there are like 4-5 options on the UG for TPS and pedal position, I set page 7 up with every gauge for the sensors and I dont have one that reads 100% during WOT and none of them read 0-5% with the throttle closed.

Might have one of my techs hook up his MODIS so I can verify what the UG is seeing

Since it hasn't been explicetly stated I'll throw my hat in the ring for calibrateing

1. Distance
2. MPG. Pg 30 & 31 of the UG manual (I printed them out so I'd have the exact steps handy when doing the calibration).

This will correct any errors in MPG calculation and probably speed as well. My UG was pretty accurate all stock but after doing some things to it my MPG went 10 off. Now its darn near spot on to my hand calc.

fuel menu -> level sender mode -> enabled, not smart.

your TPS will rarely if ever hit 0 or 100. the electronically controlled throttle makes your gas pedal a "requested amount of torque" pedal. the throttle is opened for idle, and you might not need 100% throttle to hit the requested amount of torque.

That's not an issue, it's a feature. What good is a once a month report to me, compared to a once every tenth of a second report? And why would I want some outside company to have any information about my car anyway?

I want to agree that there's no problems with plugging something into your OBDII port... but the fact is, until one of us reports getting into an accident and having their airbags go off despite having an UG/SG/EM257 or what have you plugged in there, we really can't say. I'm not worried about it, but I don't have any evidence I'm right not to worry.

Mine is plugged in 24/7 as well though, so you guys just have to hope I hit a deer or something!

it was okay. I ended up mounting mine to my steering column, if that gives you an idea of my joy about the mount.

I got some kind of cheap cell phone mount which folds in half, velcroed it behind the built in gauge cluster so it folds up to hold the UG or anything else with velcro, and folds down flat when I don't want to see it anymore. Now that I'm switching to a phone based solution, I need to find a cheap cell phone holder which I can put velcro on, so I can keep using the same mount.

Not interested in fastening things to my windshield. Maybe that's just me though.

I've had mine on the windshield mount for almost a year and it's worked fine. Hasn't fallen off once although when it's really hot the suction cup gets pretty loose.
