Hey Guys, Picking up my Sonic from the dealer tomorrow and first mod is possibly a K&N short ram intake , the guy is a friend of a friend who bought it for his GF's cruze, she doesn't like the "noise" when driving so he's letting it go to me for half of what they paid. I have been told to disconnect the neg on the battery before doing any removal..thus saving me from the infamous codes after install. Now my question is will the intake from the cruze fit, I've heard yah and nah but I'm trying to get a solid answer...before anyone asks me why I just don't go and try it myself, its a 2 hr drive so I wanna be sure. Thanks for any feedback anyone can give me.

I think the drive might be worth it as you may be the first to try is this out and if it did work you would have just opened up another option for us. But I keep reading that the tube for the ZZP intake is shorter on the Sonic than the Cruze so that might be a problem to look into.

I was just looking at the install .pdf for this intake and the first problem I have found is it uses the stock elbow to the turbo inlet, so you will have to find a stock elbow or try and find one somewhere else that will fit your inlet and the typhoon tube. If the tube length is to long you might be able trim it down to fit, just make sure you deburr the pipe and it's clean after cutting it.

This is all a guess though, you need to either pick it up for half price and take a chance or just spend the money on the ZZP or Injen intakes.

I believe Eric is right based on numerous posts in this forum. Because of the limited engine bay space compared to the Cruze and the need to have the MAF sensor properly located one would need an intake specifically engineered for the Sonic. Vince Geglia from Trifecta Performance has posted how difficult it is to develop a tune for a modified intake that does not throw codes.

ZZP Performance has theirs in stock now and DDMWorks is about to. There you have two choices designed for the turbo Sonic and you do not even have to drive two hours, mess around with cutting it to size, and pray that it both works and that it holds up.

And as a side note, it looks to me if one goes with one of these two (or any other designed for the Sonic) and uses premium fuel the power increase will stay instead of the ecu powering back to adjust for the increased air flow. I suspect Dave Michel (of DDMWorks) can speak to that specifically and maybe the ZZP folks.

Well I've done my fair share of modifing parts to fit cars but this is my first new car and I pick it up tonight from the dealer so the last thing I want is to be modifiying a part to fit on it. I will look into the intakes already made for the car.

I would wait for the DDM intake to hit the streets. I am leaning towards the ZZP but am definitely interested in the DDM because of the heat shield. I may try and build a shield for the ZZP on my own though.

Why not the direct fit Injen intake, most everyone is getting, with awesome results. We have been shipping these daily too.

Eric, thanks for reminding me. It might take some triming but would take a lot less time than fabing my own.

TurboTech, I am going with ZZP or DDM over quality concerns with the Injen and recommendation. As well as I am not a fan of the intake tube strung all over the engine bay.
