Hey everyone,
Well, hopefully everyone will find the videos cool enough that you'll forgive me that they are of our Camaro and not our Sonic race car.
I meant to try to update a thread on here during the event, but we had a lot of spotty internet connections in the mid-west and it was all I could do to keep Facebook updated.
The 2012 OLOA was really rough for us. We barely made it to the event, in fact we almost ended up bringing the Sonic when it didn't look like we'd get the Camaro's engine back in in time. Once it started, we caught on fire during the first road course! The next day I was able to drive the tires off the car at Mid-America and get us back into 1st in class and about ~20th overall which is not bad coming from 45th overall after the fire at Autobahn.
Unfortunately after that the electrical gremlins started in on us. Even going into limp mode twice I held onto second in class. We thought we'd solved them and at hasting I got us to within 30 points of the Roush Performance team's Mustang which was our only real competition for 1st place, but at Brainerd we had a huge electrical failure which forced two DNSs on us which put us in 4th in class with no hope of getting back into 1st.
One of the GM Performance Engineers and I literally ripped the entire car's electrical system apart to find 1 wire that was chaffing and seemed to solve the majority of our electrical issues. At Road America KL Racing manged to recover and thoroughly trounce the Roush Mustang team with a 1st in class and 17th overall finish. We also killed everyone else in class the next day on the dry skidpad with a 1.01G run that was about .11 G higher than anyone else in class and 15th overall! It got us back into third in class and almost up to 2nd in class.
It was a brutal year, but all in all we were successful and I'm very proud of all of the kids in KaleidoLINKS and the KL Racing team.
The good news for fellow sonic guys is we should be finishing the Sonic build over the next few months as soon as the GM Motorsports suspension comes out for it. *shrugs* definitely not when I'd have preferred to start our race season, but there's some saying about beggars and choosers. We should get in 1-2 enduros and ~4 sprint races in. Enough to sort the car out.
Anyway, here are some of the videos from the event. Enjoy!
