Hello, my 2014 Chevy Sonic Lt Hatchback with 115600 miles on it has a small coolant leak. I've been keeping a very close eye on the situation. I check the coolant level before I even drive it. Which is getting to be annoying and frustrating. I bought the car just two months ago and now this! As I stated before I check the coolant level every morning. If low I will add to the fill up line, it will dip below the line after several days, but never has ran out completely. The leak is very slow and very small. I rarely have coolant on the ground from where I've parked. It's leaking on my engine and giving me the burnt coolant smell. But it's definitely not a cracked head. I can see where the coolant is leaking on the engine right below the thermostat housing. I've done the research and I think my thermostat housing is the culprit. I think it's just crappy for GM to design a freaking PLASTIC thermostat housing knowing dang well that part is going to crack from wear and tear and HEAT. I knew that it was designed to fail, when I priced a replacement thermostat housing and the new one is all aluminum or metal, but definitely not PLASTIC. GM is still selling the geninue replacement part and it's PLASTIC! Do better GM! Back to the original complaint. I'm not a mechanic but I have worked on my own vehicles my whole life, 15 years +. I'm thinking of letting a shop handle this and just paying for labor. If you read my whole post any suggestions ?? Thank you.
