Leather wearing?

Hey all, been busy the past few months so I haven't gotten a chance to get on here very much. I'm still loving my RS, but my driver seat is starting to show some (to me, serious) wear on the left bolster on the bottom cushion. This is my first car I've owned with leather interior, so I'm not sure if this is common or not. I understand that it's going to have some wear and tear, but if it keeps going at the rate it is, my seats will look terrible in 5 years. I can post some pictures when I get off work tonight, I just wanted to see if anyone was experiencing the same thing or if I'm just getting out of my car the wrong way (I can't understand the issue any other way).

^Aaannnddd...this folks is why I hate leather seats & prefer cloth ones (for this very same reason). I see alot of people on here praising their RS seats too, we'll see how they hold up...

You sure it's genuine leather, or that infamous GM pleather hahaha!!!

I didn't think it was genuine leather? And to help maintain any leather seat I recommend lexol products. They have a leather cleaner/conditioner. It helps maintain the seats to prevent cracking. I've used it on my 96 cobra for years.

But also +1 on not liking leather seats, they never look as good as new. I'm almost positive that the sonic is only offered with "leatherette" seats, a leather mix.

Yes, it's genuine leather, unique to the RS. For someone so quick to bash them, you don't know much about them .

The leatherette seats are on models other than the RS (you're probably thinking of LTZ seats, I assure you the RS's seats are much nicer). I don't recall asking whether or not anyone liked the leather seats either. I was kind of hoping that another RS owner (seeing as how this is the RS specific board after all) would have replied so I would have a grounds for comparison.

ANYWAY, here's a picture of what looks like wear to me. My other seats still look factory new, but I don't have passengers very often. Like I said, may just be wear and tear per usual, but I'm going to take it in to the dealer soon for TSB so I figured I would ask about this if it's an issue. Relevant help only please.

That's pretty much what mine looks like after 13k miles. Think about the ride height of the car and how you have to get in and get out. Also, I've stopped choosing pants with buttons on the pockets or when I wear them, I am careful as I am aware at how I slide in and out of the seat.

I've not seen a car with leather seats that didn't end up looking worn.

Now, I chose the leather because I'd rather have it over the leatherette and couldn't stand the cloth seats that look like hotel carpet. I'll deal with the wear and if I have to throw seat covers over it eventually, well that's that long that I DIDN'T have to cover them.

You might also get more replies if you lost the attitude. I almost didn't reply with my relevant information.

Lolwat? I said I appreciated it, it was all in jest, you guys need to lighten up. I wasn't trying to come off as a know it all, I was just stating facts, I like leather seats better than leatherette and I was making it clear. *Sigh* I'm tired of explaining this username, I edited my signature for you. I DO wish the seats were bolstered better, I think that would help with the wear and the creasing. Then I realize what class my car is in and shrug, because really... It's not a Cadillac.

As was pointed out, the RS uses real leather and I too question the Sonic RS knowledge base of a few who posted replies.

The picture looks like normal change to me.

The driver side leather seats in a previous Camaro of mine wore through but were repaired under the 36/36 warranty. I can not remember how many miles I had when the repair was done but the car was not two years old.

The RS has microfiber inserts in the area similar to the area that wore through. Some wrinkling comes with leather seats and so far what I observe does not seem untoward (less than 10,000 miles) so far.

Yea, I'd recommend a nice leather conditioner (I'm gonna try to detail my car this weekend, weather permitting) so far the RS seats are really nice, even for a bigger guy like me.

I think Insanika is right .... the way you get out of a pretty low car will cause wear like this. My leatherette in my car is wearing just like that and it seems like the cushion below it is wearing as well. I have seen a few LTZ owners complaining about this exact issue. I am also careful about how I get in and out now that I have seen the wear.

5000 miles in 61 days, and mine aren't too bad. I make sure I don't have anything in my pockets when I drive, and use the floor mat and the rocker panel as pressure points when I roll out of the car (right foot jammed on the floor, left hand on the rocker panel, use your imagination on the rest) Compared to my GF's HHR, the Sonic is a fishbowl with all the windows/sun exposure. Tinting the windows, a sunshade, etc will help the seats/interior last longer, as well as a good leather conditioner (I have leather treatment towels stored in the rear hatch).

Doesn't the RS have the high tech UV blocking glass? Tinting isn't necessary unless you park the car outside in really, really bright sunlight. (IMHO)

I have 6668 miles on my RS. I have very similar issues. What happens with leather is it stretches over time. Like every one is saying use a good leather conditioner I Personally use Maguire's on my seats.
