This makes little or no sense considering that the complete LED swap post was done on a 2014 Sonic, and it clearly specifies it does not have projectors. The reality is that many people have done this with effective results, I am sorry yours was (apparently) less so.
First.. I have a 2017 with projector headlight housings, which, in most cases are more receptive to LED retrofit . .. but even those can have light pattern, scatter, blinding, and cut off issues. I did the before/after and marking the original light pattern that @Vicarious suggested. Youtube has many such videos showing headlight aiming. Some good. . . . others, not so much.
Don't care if the "thread" was about LED swap in a 2014. Your own comments ( I am still adjusting) reveal the misinformation and mixed results with installing an LED bulb in a old style reflector housing.
There are too many variables in the LEDs that are for sale out there as well as design changes as time goes by even in a same brand. Some may be ok. . . most won't. Look up some of the Youtube videos from the reputable LED sellers and reviewers. They will show how bad many LEDs are in reflector headlight housings.
The one thing I will say is since the Sonic is a small car and lower to the ground, there may be some leeway in getting nominal results. But, again, depends on LED brand, model, type of chips, etc.
Lastly, it would be understandable that a person may get away using LEDs in a reflector housing if they live in a rural or wilderness environment where few drivers are encountered. Doesn't mean the headlight are properly aimed.
And I have not been personally "flashed" or harassed for having LEDs or live in such an area. I just included the comment since others reading this possibly do. So something to keep in mind. Not getting "flashed" when using LEDs is no indication the LEDs are not blinding oncoming drivers.
If a person really is responsible, it would be good to have a friend, spouse, etc drive on a section of level flat road towards you and check for blinding and give an honest and unbiased observation. Swap cars and do it several times to get each others view. Few will do this and just assume an LED swap is "ok".
I am not against LEDs. But I feel compelled to warn those that may think they can use them and may harm themselves or others. It would be a terrible thing to have an accident where yourself or others were maimed or killed because of insisting on using something that was not safe.
Included below is what my LED cutoff and pattern looks like. If your light pattern has any upward scatter, it will be blinding other drivers. And adjusting lower to try and compensate, will then reduce light throw where you need it to see down the road.
