LED Headlight Shut Off Issue

I just recently installed these LED headlights into my 2017 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MTYUT10?tag=viglink20858-20.

I have an issue with them shutting off. At first I thought it might have been a connection, but it's both of them at the exact same time. I thought it might be when hitting bumps, but the strange thing is when I hit bumps they are perfectly fine but when I'm driving on smooth road, that's when it happens. I have switch the light from Auto to Manual and it happens on both. Any thoughts or ideas? Anyone else have this issue?

I have LEDS installed in mine for 6 months now. No such problem. Do you have thr factory dust caps on?

No I do not. I actually done the exact same setup that you done with the rubber dust boot.

Ok. . how long do you have the lights on before they go out and, if you turn the switch off. . .. then back on .. . do the lights come on again?

Also, try removing the dust covers and use without them for a day or two.
That will tell us if maybe the LEDs are not getting enough air circulaiton. Otherwise, maybe one of the LEDs has a defect?

It might have been 5 minutes before it started happening. If I turn them off and then back on, they come back on immediately.

I might do that, just have to make sure it's not rainy out or getting down into the freezing temps and creating the condensation in the lamp. That was one of my worries about not enough circulation. I also wondered about one of them having a defect, but the fact that both go out at the exact same time almost makes me think it's something car related.

I hope it's not a defective LED . . . I feel bad recommending them if it is. Mine have been fine.

Maybe also make sure that the rectangular driver block is well off to the side and tucked neatly in so the rear/fan of the LED is not obstructed for air flow. Maybe check the plug connections also. . . pull apart and reconnect?
There should be plenty of room for air circulation. The rubber caps should give more than enough room. The stock dust covers almost fit, with maybe about 3/8" more space needed.

I actually ran mine without any dust cover for almost two weeks because the original dust covers I ordered were only 75mm and too small. So, yeah, if not rainy they should be ok.

You need a CANBUS canceler. Just went through this with my 2016.

I bought this and it fixed it.

Dust covers to replace factory ones with.

I ran the wires and the back of the bulb out the back of the dust cover alternative, then used double sided tape to attach it to the frame right above the headlight housing. I've replaced all my front lights with LEDs (including turn signals). I had the same problem you had with LED headlights...they were on and then they would turn off while driving. Sometimes they would flicker first before going out and other times just cut off.

Please note that some cars, such as the 2007+ Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, BMW, Mercedes-Bens requires the decoder (warning canceller) to be installed together to avoid the Flicker and warming.

He has the exact Sealight H11 LEDs bulbs I have. I have no issue of them turning off and have been using them for 6 months.
In the 2017 Sonic these bulbs need no CANBUS adapter unless they possibly changed the design of the LEDs.

They'd turn back on if I manually reset the lights from Automatic to manually turning them on. Installed the canceler and haven't had issues since. Last night I unplugged one of the cancelers and plugged the light in direct on my passenger side before I ran to the corner store and back to test it. That bulb went out in the 10 minutes I was out.

That said, you have a 2016 . . he and I have a 2017. Plus. . this headlight-

I have the same LED bulbs he is using and have no shutting off issue in 6 months of use. . so apples and oranges to what you are using and the car year.

There are so many LED bulbs out there and some are "plug and play" with no CANBUS adapter needed and some not. It also depends on the BCM and model year of car. Those things can change.

It also may be the bulb or a defect or even a change in bulb design. Mine are working fine so far with no shutoff and without a CANBUS adapter.

He may buy the CANBUS and end up still having the issue if one or the other bulb is defective.

So my confusion is like JTee2017 said, I bought the exact same lights since he didn't have any issues. No clue is maybe different options on the car would cause the issue with all other things being the same.

With that being said, I went ahead a bought the CANBUS adapters since I drive about 50/50 day and night, I didn't want to cause any issues while driving for myself with the lights cutting out or other cars thinking that I was flashing them for whatever reason.

So far, this was the first morning with them on and it appears to have worked. I tried paying as much attention to my lights as I did the road and from what I could tell, they did not flicker or cut out once. I now just need to find a better mounting position for the bricks and wires.

All in all, thank you OssiansFolley for bringing up the CANBUS issue. Although I'm aware of it, I didn't think about it since JTee2017's setup has never had an issue.

Not a problem. Honestly, it could be something as stupidly silly as having a different flash than JTee.

I was fortunate enough on mine to have a frame hole right above the headlight assembly that I could zip tie my blocks onto. Worked for the standard lows, but my high beams had to be wedged in and double sided taped to the housing.
