Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Threat or Menace?

What do you all do when this darned thing goes on? The manual is not much help. I usually check the gas cap and if that doesn’t work, I fill up the tank. One of those usually turns it off.

Do any of you have one of those OBD reader devices? What codes are safe to ignore?

My Sonic is a 2012 and I guess it’s time for something to go wrong on it, so I panic every time this light goes on.

I got an Ultragauge for myself to a) have real-time info and b) it will give pending codes and permeant codes. I got tired of going to Auto parts stores and using OnStar to get them.

Btw, the OnStar people are ignorant when you ask for the code(s) and what the code description is "I can give you the code and description but it won't be of any use to you only a certified tech."

Anytime I get a CEL and the corresponding code(s), I look into all of them along with any symptoms. I use that info to either fix it myself or to inform the dealer/mechanic.
