Hello everyone meet tigger, my summit white 1.8l LTZ. No mods currently however i plan on an intake exhaust and tune asap and I'll be keeping my eye out for any "beefier" mods like turbo kits n such. I love the way the car looks now. so besides a nice sub and amp, (that i will use to complement the stock tunes) the majority of my mods will be to make her faster, better on fuel and sound mean.

So im about to add a sub and amp to my stock system

I am also building a custom sealed box for the sub using 3/4 inch MDF with fiberglass to renforce. Im new to box design so im going with a sealed for now. Ill be building a ported box later . Once i can afford to upgrade the factory speakers.

Im planing on adding pics of install asap i may even do a vid.

First, are you going for sound quality or price?

The vinyl looks great!

Now to start with the system.

I recommend staying away from Power Acoustik.
For amps, look into Rockford Fosgate, Alpine, Kenwood, or Sundown Audio.
For subs, I really recommend going with DC Audio or FI Audio.

The wire kit is a great choice, KnuKonceptz is a highly reputable brand in the car audio world.

Also, very good choice building your own box. Prefab boxes are not worth it at all.

Ah tnks for the reply, mind if i ask why you dont like power Acoustic? I have done about two weeks of research on this. The subs are hands down the best bang for the buck SPL wise. Sound quality i got the impression they fall little short.

Now the amps do have mixed reweiws but 95% of the bad reweiws (looked to me) to be people mad about the amp being over rated. Or people who just seemed to be on the h8r train. i dont care if my 1200 watt rms only puts out 980 when it cost me 75 bucks.

As far as the build quality, i just found out a guy i work with builds amps at the professional level. As in he just made a custom amp for the local big ticket concert hall the "blue note" here in columbia mo. Im going to bring this pa amp to em and get his opinion. Ill report back on that.

I already bought all of the stuff listed along with the MDF. Im going to try and compensate for the low sound quality of the sub by using a sealed box. I used winisd to build a box 1.18 cubic ft. The sub calls for 1 cubic foot.

I will have the box built on teusday. I only paid 75 bucks for the amp and 100 for the sub. I paid 60 bucks for the wire kit. I thought, if i dont like the cheap sub and amp i can get better, but im not doing the wire install twice.

same goes for the door speakers if i do go aftermarket on those it will be high end. Im going to try and do a DIY of the install. I asked my girl to shoot the vid for me. She said "im not going to watch you tear apart the car!" LOL

Lol, good point. You can always upgrade if it's not enough.

If you end up going door speakers, I highly recommend Rockford Fosgate. I've always used their speakers and amps in my own vehicles (not subs though*)
You can find their 6.5" sets for around $50 on eBay, and you will not be disappointed.


*I don't use RF subs simply for the fact that I've always been a supporter of "up and coming" sub brands such as DC Audio, Ascendant Audio, Skar Audio, and Fi Audio.

I'm in PA as well. I even made it a point to tell the dealer not to put it on. He said that since it's not required here that they don't even order it. In fact, one didn't even come with mine.
