Muffler Delete only?? Is it loud?

Seeing the cat backs only give 3 to 5 hp im thinking about just removing the main muffler in the back of my dusk and making a straight pipe in place.

If im keeping the stock exhaust and front resonator by doing the muffler delete does the car get really loud? Looking for a better sound but no drone and not wanting it crazy loud either. Just a step up from stock

Without a muffler, its a slight difference. Not loud by any means. Both cats seem to really keep the exhaust quiet.

Just sucks with dusk edition because the tip is bolted tobthe lower valance. I'm just looking for a little more sound and no drone.

I'd take it into a muffler shop, tell them to cut out the muffler and connect it back together with a straight pipe. That way you can keep your tip.

Yes I will. Stock exhaust pipe just goes into this bigger pipe that's on the bumper.

I cut my muffler for about 3 weeks and it was not even noticeable unless you really step on it.

Car does feel better but maybe in my mind. The oem muffler sucks on flow I posted pics in my dusk build thread

In many states (PA is one of them, which came up back when a lot of us were considering this sort of thing) this is illegal. I went with resonator delete instead... which I regret. Neither muffler or resonator appear to cost us any hp at all, and the resonator delete did not, imo, improve the sound. Muffler delete might. I guess that's all a matter of taste though.

I am running tinted windows at an extent that are also forbidden here in PA, so I'm not sure why I balked at muffler delete. And nobody has even hinted at ticketing me for them, including the couple times I've been pulled over for other issues. Muffler delete might be the same thing. Just a heads up though, in case you care, you might want to check your state's statutes.

The car sounds great with no muffler. It's behind the cat song is like me in cali no worries about smog and dealer said no warranty issues also.

Interesting that the dealer said it was cool. I just stopped up at the local Midas and the guy looked at me like I was nuts. Said I would ruin the engine due to lack of back pressure. I've heard the videos without the exhaust and like it, but he did put a scare in me.

Aftercat is fine. Also more free flow for turbo so better

Its not about back pressure. Its about scavenging effect if you know what that is. If no exhaust pressure was the best why does the size and length of a header tube matter so much on a gasoline engine, why not just leave the open exhaust ports. Its all got to do with one exhaust pulse pulling on the next one coming. I love all these guys on here with 3" exhaust that have probably killed the bottom end torque on their motors. There is a real science to exhaust flow and it is not easily messed with. This little 83 cu in motor would breath fine through a drinking straw lol. Remember 83 cu inches, thats equivelent to 1 cylinder on a nice sized big block, and they dont need 3" exhaust

Got muffler removed and piped to stock RS tail pipe. Still getting used to it, but it def makes a diff wo being obnoxious. My wife may disagree, but then again, she drives a Volt!

Chris can you do a video for sound? I want to do the delete too, but like others I'm hesitant. I know that this is what Fiat did with the Abarth, they simply left off the muffler and those cars sound snappy sweet.
