... well, not in a software sense, but rather in a functional sense.

First, get a portable USB switch with manual on/off switches (not the autosensing variants) like this one @ $9.99:

Then, get 4 of these low-profile USB flash drives @ $9.99 per:

Some velcro dots to secure it to the console, and voila! You've got a slim, low-profile set of 4 banks of 2,500 songs that you can switch between on-the-fly. No fumbling multiple thumb drives. Separate alphabetically, by genre, whatever.

If you want more banks, Sabrent also makes a 7-port version, although attaching to the center console might be a bit clumsy:

The one downside is that the included USB cable ends up being a bit long and dangles. It might be worthwhile obtaining a short USB cable: note that it is uses a mini rather than micro USB connector at the switch end:

I had a similar idea when I first got my Sonic and got a USB splitter thinking I could charge one device and listen to music from another. Your idea looks to solve the fact the the USB in our Sonic doesn't have enough juice to power more than one device at a time by switching the USB power on and off but does the USB bank itself take any power to run? If so then it takes away from the device you want to charge or listen to and may not work, this is of course if you haven't successfully completed this already??

I could see using this so I could have my 160GB iPod Classic plugged in since it uses a different cord than my iPhone 5 and can have my i5 cable plugged in still and just switch power to get a charge without having to unplug and replug a bunch of times.

Edit: I just saw that this requires its own power source because it comes with an AC power cable so you would have to wire it up also so it would work.

Not so - just need to find out what the power input requirement is and find a DC/DC converter that matches.

I just bought a few things to throw in my new car. One was called a Power Cup. I haven't tried it yet, but it got great ratings. I like where the DC outlet is too (Lighter Plug). I think it will work perfect.
