A back up camera wouldn't have saved the child. In this extreme case, the woman was obviously irresponsible and it's quite likely she wouldn't even have used a rear-mounted camera if it were installed. After all, she thought (or forgot) that her toddler was in the car, right?
A back up camera in a vehicle such as the Sonic (and every other car on the road like it) is about the most useless feature ever. Use your eyes and common sense.
It was just an example. There have been other cases where a father ran over his son with his truck and neighbors witnessed it, etc etc.
I'm just saying they shouldn't be put in jail after such a tragedy like another member said should happen to them.
We already put things on common sense things already. Like mcdonalds coffee cups have to say "careful hot" or something like that.
The train tracks automatically lower a bar to keep you from trying to cross when the train is coming, even though anyone with eyes or ears can hear it.
There's a sound that goes off when you forget your seatbelt. Another common sense thing but they still install it in cars and people accept it.
I could name more, but you get the idea. Everywhere you go, we are enforcing common sense to take care of the 10% that don't use it.
