New 2LTZ turbo

Hello everyone, My name is rik. I have been driving my sonic for 3 weeks and I love it!
After putting in 1500 miles into it, and since its memorial day weekend, I decided to break-in the engine & transmission yesterday by doing a 260 mile road trip from LA to LV!
the trip was amazingly smooth (roundtrip) and I only filled up tank 1x !!!
I still have 1/4 tank left from the trip.
...Now its time to clean my baby up from the bugs.

---looking forward to learning some breakthroughs here in getting more MPG.

since this car is an automatic ( I read somewhere here in the forums someone also owns a turbo AT) the most MPG i got during the trip to LV was at 35.2mpg avg. for 2 hours. The car has a rating of 27mpg city and 37mpg highway. I average 33.4 mpg in my commutes to work (LA traffic).
I would like to know if anyone here knows how the gasoline gauge is divided?
bar=gallon ???
I think the sonic has a 10 gallon tank, is there anyone here more familiar with the specs?

12gallons (1 bar per gallon) on mine (1.4L T 6spd M/T HB) and I'm averaging 36MPG's driving 230 miles roundtrip a day, 90% freeway at 65-75MPH.

i think on a good day i commute 90% freeway just like you, but her in LA, I tend to hit 60% city (freeways turn to parking lots) and 40% good 65mph~80mph runs.
I need to get out of CA! road trip with my sonic to FL!

Welcome. The sonic has a 12 gallon tank and the low fuel light comes on with a little over 1.5 left in the tank.

that explains a lot about how i get "Lo" on the gauge, but no mileage.
I appreciate the helpful info.
my next move is to fill in an 8oz of waterwetter bottle for rust protection in the coolant system.

fill up before you hit 1/4 tank. filling near empty is bad for your fuel pump. if you want to know how many miles to empty, turn the spring switch in the signal indicator lever until it gives you fuel range. you may need to use the menu button on that lever to get to the top set of readings instead of the odometer & trip readings.
