Sigh....

Too much competition in the segment, Sonic and Cruze are too close in size/features, no more marketing for the Sonic, no MY16 updates, and allocation and availability forecast are dismal.... I'm afraid "taps" is being played on our fun hatch.

it's not the size, it's how you drive it....

Indeed. The Sonic is being squeezed out. Not sure why GM would continue to offer it, at least in USA/Canada.

Eventually the Bolt will make sense, when gas goes back up..it will. They'd lose money right out of the gate if they brought a new Sonic out. An MCE is an easy thing to do, but with no sales growth it's not warranted...it's just business.

I still have hope! The Trax is built on the same platform, so it shouldn't be too expensive to keep producing it. And with the new 1.4T (Cruze) or 1.5T (Malibu) or 1.6T (Opel) or 2.0T (Camaro) you could come up with an excellent performance "hot hatch" that slots under the Camaro. Something to take on the Ford ST models. Do it GM!

That said, I could see the sedan going away to cut down on inventory costs and such. Force people to buy the more expensive Cruze if they want a sedan. Too bad, I like the sedan!

The Bolt is a electric vehicle and it will not affect the Sonic.

The Bolt is also so expensive you could buy two Sonics instead. It's not competing for the same ecological niche. If you want to worry, worry about the hatchback Cruze, and worry about them gradually turning the Spark into something that doesn't suck.

These are from the North American International Auto show in Detroit. The Cruze hb isn't that bad looking but I'm still really partial to my Sonic, and the Bolt is different then the concept but not by far I think the idea of an electric vehicle that can go long range on just a battery is awesome but still not very economical at the moment

with this, the new Volt and upcoming new Spark (along with cheap gas)... I don't see much hope for our old Sonic's...

Either way im not to worried. Once my Sonic is paid off im gutting it and slapping a big turbo on it then we will be getting a different daily driver.

yeah, I don't see any need to NOT keep her once she's paid off... runs fine, holds my stuff, gets ~37-38 mpg, cheap to insure, heated seats...

And I get compliments on her looks quite often..

What's not to like?

I don't think that GM is going to throw the Sonic in the trash I'm thinking either the '17 or 18 model year we are going to see a refresh on the Sonic just keep hope! Another good piece of news is that GM hasn't announced that it is going to stop production of our Sonics I'm sure that they'll be around for awhile.
