Hey guys, well today I traded my 2010 Silverado 1500 for a new 2013 Sonic LT 1.8 with a 6 speed
I managed put 75 miles on it since I signed the papers at 4PM today lol and absolutely love it.
Definitely looking for a tune/intake/exhaust and looking to make this all mine. Hopefully before the next 5 years there will be a turbo kit for these good ol 1.8's
Anything that's essential to know? I'd love to know where people with 1.8's get parts, and tunes and what to avoid. I'm a younger guy and going from an '02 WRX to a sonic is going to be weird lol

Welcome, as you may notice the aftermarket for the 1.8 is small. I have the turbo tech racing engine and trans mount and exhaust on mine and it makes a big difference with it. I would start there the tune is more about driveability vs power FYI,


Also GO 1.8!!!!!

Ive definitely noticed the 1.8 aftermarket options are a lot less, but I don't know always been an all motor < turbo kinda guy. Really though motor mounts and trans mounts can make that much a difference!?
And, to answer your question when the 1.8 has a turbo kit, it will wipe the 1.4t out of existence ;]

Until you lose your job and need gas money and insurance is killing you

after everything I'll have about 1500 in my pocket from trading it in, between insurance rebates ( I always pay in full ), refund on my GMPP and gas savings, Ill be in the clear for a while lol

Welcome! And if you hang out for a bit, I bet you end up with some decent parts for the 1.8. It doesn't sound like you're in the market for a Turbo like most of the other 1.8 guys that regret their choice. I made sure I could keep my 2010 Sierra Crew Cab 5.3 SLT when I picked up the Sonic.

I loved my truck don't get me wrong, but I really don't have much of a use for it, and if I need a truck I borrow my dad's or my buddy's lol.
TBH, I'm optimistic for the 1.8 maybe too much so lol. There is only so much power you can push out of 1.4 liters
I'm trying to look into a nice set of OZ type kind of wheels if anyone knows what I mean by that lol, and i should probably start scouring the forums for wheel size / drop combos eh?

By the time the 1.8L gets a turbo with all the bugs worked out I will have traded mine in for a new model. Probably it will have the 1.6L Turbo or the 2.0L Turbo.

Plus I can see the cost of about 5k for the upgrade is just ridiculous

Not knocking your decision. I was more or less trying to got on the same wave length. I couldn't get rid of my truck, it's still a part of my life. I do feel sorry for it sitting in the garage. Luckily my boy still loves it and I take it once a or twice a week to drop him off and to work.

Those OZ wheels would look nice, I'm saving up for the RSF-5's from Einkei now.

rdss, I know what you meant, and yeah if i could find a set of wheels that kind of represent that i would be pumped. final product for me will most likely be intake/tune/straight pipe/coilovers/wheels. I mean if they come up with a tc/sc kit for the 1.8 for under 3k ill more than likely grab that up haha. im not looking to turn this into anything crazy but hey 200whp wouldn't be bad ;] i should also add, i would love a rear disk kit, that would be mighty fine.
