Hey everyone,
Just purchased a new 2013 Sonic LT w/ 1.4L Turbo and 6spd Manual. I am coming from a 2012 Chevy Cruze LT RS, but totalled it in an accident 2 weeks ago. Cruze was slammed on Pedders Xa Coilovers, and had K&N SRI Intake on it. Loved the Cruze, but was unable to finance another one, so next best choice was the Sonic.
I ultimately wanted a Hatchback Turbo, but nothing in my price range, as my credit isn't the greatest, so got the Sedan Turbo in Blue Topaz Metallic, with the 6 speed manual.
I am from NE PA, in Schuylkill County. My first mod will be an Intake so everyone can hear the turbo. This was my first mod on the Cruze when I first got it. I plan to order this week.. But unsure what to go with brand end. I had K&N on the Cruze and loved the bottom end power it created. What does everyone suggest here? Injen, DDM, ZZP??? Any others out there?
Just looked under the hood of the Sonic and noticed you can't access the top mounts on front suspension. Those who have Coilover Kits and did the install themselves, how hard is it to remove the cowl parts to access the Top mounts? Looks like Coilovers on this car will take about twice as long as it took me to put them on my Cruze. Did the Cruze in about 3.5 hours in a small garage.
Also plan on getting Hub Adapters and mounting my 17" Motegi MR7's that I have had for about 9 years LOL. Just need to purchase some new tires. Was thinking of 215/45 17's.. Opinions??? Getting 3/4" Adapters to minimize wheel poke. If I did my calculations correct the wheel should sit about 2mm inside the top of the fender.. I think the Motegi's are 17x7 w/ +42 Offest.. Hard to remember since they are 9yrs old, and my little brother has them at his house until I go pick them up, so can't measure them..
Plans for car over next 2 years:
SRI Intake, Wheels, Coilovers, 5 Piece Lip Kit, Oracle LED Halo's, Headlight Ring Paint, Mustache Removal (Possible Custom Grille), LED DRL's (Since I don't have factory fogs), Chrome Removal (Plastidip at first), Exhaust System (Custom), Interior LED Swap (Almost done already as I had LED's from Cruze). LED Footwell Lighting (Did this in Cruze as well).
Plan to work lots of Overtime at work to customize this Sonic. Have 3 kids and Mortgage so lots of bills that are priority over the aftermarket parts LOL.. Little at a time.
I plan to get Intake this week.. Depending on Insurance check, may get tires and adapters within a month. Coilovers will probably be end of year investment.
I miss my Cruze everyday, but glad to be a Sonic Owner now!!
