Hi, my name is Bob, and I'm new here. I am a 54 year old auto mechanic, divorced with 2 grown kids. I am looking at buying a new 2014 Sonic as a transportation/traveling car. It will not be an enthusiast car. I am a car enthusiast, and have a hot rod (well built small block in a Chevy S10) and a 1964 Ford Fairlane convertible. But being a professional mechanic I have found it is not much fun to work on newer cars with all their electronics. I am currently driving a 2001 Chevy Malibu, but it is on it's last legs with 187,000 miles on it (bought it used with 98,000 on it, and it had obviously not been well maintained)
I am retiring at age 55 next March 30th, and would like to do some traveling around the country, so I need a solid reliable car, preferably American, that gets good gas mileage, and the Sonic seems to fit the bill perfectly. Plus my sister and brother in law bought a new one a few months ago, and I'm very impressed with it. I haven't decided between the hatch or the sedan yet, but it will be an LT automatic. I love stick shift cars (my truck has one) but I have serious knee and shoulder problems, and driving one through stop and go traffic is an exercise in pain.
