You should be able to twist that off, it was pretty warm time of the day and the car had been baking for some time in the sun so that may have aided.
It took some back and forth and I may have had some alcohol in my system that was assisting in the "this thing is going to come off" mindset.
There's ridges and possibly a dowel holding it on (was a slot for one on mine but in the motion of it coming off may have disappeared).
Like I said don't tweak the shifter rod itself though. clockwise than back to counter clock wise, lift up, takes some doing for sure.
One setback to this I've found is the shifter gets toasty in the sun now.
