Hey, Scott here. I just traded in my car yesterday for a basic Silver automatic 1.8L Sonic hatchback. I took a pretty signifigant performance hit, but my main goal was to be more efficient and get something smaller. However, the car honestly isn't too bad and I have to say it is pretty decent in the corners.
With my 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart trade-in I fronted $1.6k total (my negoation skills need some work as I should have pushed for less in retrospect. ), I'm thinking the lower insurance cost ($25/mo), cheaper gas cost (my old car required premium), better MPG, potential of lower maintance costs (old car needed full synthetic), and 3 years of bumper-to-bumper warranty again... I should make back the cash I had to put in. The 2009 had finished up with the warranty that covered everything.
Probably the only mod I'll consider in the future is better rims and tires. I had some 17x8 Enkei RPF1 on my old car that were nice and super light weight (saved around 12.5lb per wheel over the 18x7 stocks). It's too bad the bolt pattern of the Sonic is a bit odd....the RPF1 doesn't have that option in 15 or 16 inch. The options on Tire Rack at the moment are all heavy and about the same as stock rims.
