For starters it smooths out lower rpms especially on a 4 cylinder. It also can make stronger feeling launches.

Very true, and also lowers NVH and its a dual mass unit (I had to google that one). Like eric I'd rather have the lower mass and more fun, however GM went with the pragmatic choice of appealing to everyone with their choice, can't really fault them on that call.

How much can the flywheel on the Sonic weigh? I think the one on my 92 pickup was 29lbs. That was just the flywheel alone, not counting clutch or pressure plate.


The Sonic has a dual mass flywheel? Never heard of such a thing but google showed some complicated crazy looking flywheels.

IIRC, it's 22 lbs. it was posted in the clutch masters thread.

The Cruze does not use a side mount IC. On the Cruze it is sandwiched between the A/C condenser and the radiator. Even worse than a side mount IC.

Wouldn't this suggest the 1.4 produces slightly more power in the stock Sonic vs a stock Cruze?

Not sure how you think placing the IC right next to your 220* radiator with a restriction to airflow infront of it is better than a side mount with no heat source right next to it.

Even with A/C off the IC will always be warmer than if it had an unobstructed airflow cooling it.

the side mount has one heat source near it; the engine. it also doesn't have direct access to airflow. side mount is worse.

top mount is also less than ideal.

Going 50+MPH down a road means a lot of air pulling air from the radiator away from the IC.

Not sure if the IC is conducting any heat from the radiator at that point, but I suppose anything is possible.

I know I know, you're not always going 50MPH but I don't use my cars for acceleration, I use them for MPG.

Plenty of steel and plastic between the IC and engine, plus a hole in the front cover or a duct to directair directly into the IC.

that's not how the Cruze is. the Cruze is literally smushed into the side of the engine bay. it is not an efficient design. Cruzetalk members have complained about considerable heat soak.
