What Breezybro said is quite common-the news may say "XX year Make/Model has a recall", but in reality only vehicles of certain production dates and packages are affected, they just want you to check (not saying the news listed our cars, I haven't followed that very closely)
I will say that I wouldn't panic if a car you own is listed. Mary Barra has taken a stance of calling out every little thing. For the sake of example:
Say 60% of cars with potentially faulty parts should be recalled or considered for one- Old GM would have recalled 20-30%, if that. Mary has taken a stance that 100% will be recalled, no matter what.
Her theory is that the press really can't get worse at this point, and that we need to stand up as a company and purge anything that could ever haunt us, making this a sort of final stop for any questionable cars. Then produce cars that (hopefully) never need one ever again.
I hope I was not too unclear-and the above numbers were made up for illustration's sake only.
