OEM CF Seibon Hood

I'm getting it installed next week and still undecided on hood pins! Has anyone who has it had a problem not having hood pins?

I don't think it will be a concern. The Seibon hood isn't just a CF shell. Shell type hood definitely require hood pins to prevent them from shattering from turbulence at speed.

The Seibon is essentially a fiberglass hood with CF cast into the resin. It has an actual undergirding and is every bit as rigid as OEM fiberglass hoods found on other cars.

Yup. It did require a little hole enlargement to get the washer nozzles to fit, but I just used a drill as a rotary file to bore them out...... carefully.

I agree with each response and I got the hood pins just in case. The Seibon hood comes in at about half the weight of the oem, but when opened you clearly see the fiberglass shell.

My hood (about 2.5 years old) is showing wear - if installing new now I would seriously consider having it clear coated with a euro ceramic clear coat. Seibon does a clear coat which worked well for over two years for me but that was about it.

Can you elaborate on the wear issue? If someone were to buy the hood then prime/paint/clear it like a normal hood, would there still be a wear issue?

Wear is probably not the correct term; fade or discoloration would be more correct. There are ways to resist the action such as using UV resistant clear coatings, which Seibon does and that is effective for a while. Chevy uses a form of this for its production Corvette exposed CF parts but is a technologically more advanced version: at a reported $50,000 per gallon it better be.

So if priming, painting etc. there should be no more fading than any modern car shows.
