Ok guys and gals this is it. The official 1.8 turbo thread. I should have it done within 3 1/2 months. Here is the parts list and prices. Im having a custom turbo manifold made as well which will be included in the final price.

Parts list:

K03 turbo. = $300
Oil/water feed lines = $60
Intercooler and piping =$265
Boost gauge =$60
Boost Controller=$185
Blow off valve=$60
Bosch 42 fuel injectors= $300
Tune=$300

Be weary of $300 turbos. Make sure it is genuine and not a replica.

Looking at the K03 compressor map, it appears to be an excellent choice across the board for early spool, and power at 8-10psi. 200+hp should be very possible.

You should be able to score a set of 4 Bosch 42# for $200 if you google around.

Also a mechanical boost controller, MBC, should be fine for tuning boost and a hollman is only like $80 and a great product.

I think it'll handle 8 for sure. 10 may be pushing it. But with a MBC it'd be easy to go 10 datalog and dial back to 8.

If I had a reliable car to use as a DD while doing the install and tuning, I would have by now. However I have the "project" car sitting by my garage and some of the parts I need for an engine already. As a result the SOnic needs to remain reliable for now.

As I mentioned before, be weary of knock-offs. That is NOT a genuine Borg, it is an imitation, and likely built with inferior metals. It doesn't matter to them by the time it fails, because they've already got your money.

A true Borg will cost $800-1000. At $229, I guess you can just buy another one if it fails. But of all the components in a turbocharging system, I'd look for a bargain on anything else before I skimped on the actual turbo itself.

Don't let me discourage you though. I see nothing wrong with going with the knock-off to get the ball rolling on your project. You could always swap in the real deal later after you get the whole system piped in.

I am still stoked about you having made your selection. I think you have chosen very wisely.

Look for Borg-Warner in the description of the turbo. If no brand is mentioned, it is not a Borg.

I see what you mean, when I search, I see quite a varying range of prices even for the genuine Borgs.

All I can say, is be sure that it is stated clearly wether it is authentic or not and maybe dig a little deeper and see if there is different metal options (p/n's) for the same size K03 turbo.

Sounds like things are about to get real.

What peak horsepower are you considering?

The 2252 looks great across the 1.5 PR for power up to 250-ish.

But look at the map for the GT2056. Puts you in higher efficiency at lower lbs/min airflow. Meaning better power a little earlier. The GT2252 has huge headroom for more power that won't be seen on the 1.8 at the sock boost capacities.

The trade off is loosing lower spool up for higher headroom that won't be used until stronger internals are used. It's not a bad selection by any means, just a little overkill for the stock bottom end.

I trust Dave too. I threw a bunch of different turbo choices I was interested in at him, and he dialed me into my selection based on all my specific needs.

With turbos, the drawback is you can't have every slice of the cake. So knowing what your goals and expectations are, really narrows you down to a few practical choices. Then an experienced tuner like Dave can help you predict the results of your choices so you can single one out that will cater to your priorities.

I will say that I am heavily inclined to purchase my actual Garrett through DDMW to give him the business. I can't help but feel some ethical responsibility to do so. How fair would it be for me to use up hours of his valuable time to get his input on my selection only to turn around and cut him out of compensation?

Unless of course I have his blessing that it wouldn't bother him, but he should be able to get just a good as deal as I could find myself, so I'd rather include him in the exchange of monies.

would 200-250whp and mid 20s or so for mog still be possible? you guys are using some big words for me at this point im not so useful anymore for info// but I could imagine, if your saying outta the power band and just putting around you could still get upper 20s or so, even with bigger injectors etc... I love this car, and if we could build 200+whp boosted with the gas mileage, it would be so much fun for DD,, can you say street/strip sonic?opcorn:
