beaslbob, you don't know for sure that the Sonic would have been produced in the US if GM went thru bankruptcy in 2009. As I said in a later reply (which was moved to the other thread by a Moderator): http://www.sonicownersforum.com/forum/t695/

Point is, back in 2009, GM's weakest market was the USA, there is really strong competition in the sub-compact field, for very low profit margin, also they had not yet spent the $100's of Million to upgrade Orion plant. If they were going thru bankruptcy, the Sonic may not have been offered in the US at all...

GM going under would have adversely affected all US auto manufacturing, no matter where in the world the automaker is headquartered. Remnants would have survived or been formed, but nothing to replace what was lost. I will give one example: Florsheim Shoes as a leader among US shoemakers (just as GM is considered a leader among US automakers) went under and shoe making in the US shrunk proportionately. Yes, there are some still assembling shoes here, but what per cent of the overall market?

If GM had been allowed to shrink or disappear, there would have been no reason whatsoever to assemble the Sonic in the US. None. Not even a prayer of a reason.

Just my two cents, but what do I know?

Just got word from the dealer. Apparently my car wasn't shipped to the dealer, rather to some other location, and is now ready to be shipped back to Orion to get shipped to the dealer. He's guessing it has something to do with QC, and that it should be in in another week or 2. Wow this waiting to ship thing is a pain!

Chevy customer service told me that the car is "somewhere between the plant and your dealer." That's ALL they could tell me!!! I find it hard to believe that SOMEONE can't tell me precisely where my car is.

Just got email from dealer that according to the DBC my car has been bayed in Lake Orion once again, and should be shipped to the dealer Wednesday so I should be able to pick up Thursday. Happy week!

Mine was sent to QC on Nov 8th and bayed on Nov 9th. No tracking updates since then...

I could have been on Fort Myers Beach today if I had the car

Hopefully mine is in process of shipping also...

I just got a call from the Chevy Customer Service woman I spoke to last week...

She called to tell me the transport people confirmed that the car is at the train depot in East Brookfield, Mass !!!

So hopefully it's just a couple days away

From there takes a minimum of two days because the dispatcher has to assign car to drivers. There is an advantage to QC: everything is checked and repaired if needed.

Won't be long now. Hope this does not stop you from ordering in the future. As I earlier stated, I will never get on this roller coaster ride again, therefore no more ordering for me, no sir, no way, never again until the next time I order, which will probably not be for a couple of years.

Yes, as stated before it could be there as early as tomorrow. My car showed up the same day as the Cassens info. My dealer was only about 20mi from the plant though.

I saw it was added to my GMConnects screen. I called my dealer and left him a message to call me if he sees the car come in.

Cassens info has popped up on GMConnects as well, and says my car was shipped out at 10:30 this morning. Hopefully that means it is at the dealer currently being prepped and I can at least test drive it tomorrow. I've got some things going on before I can actually sign the paperwork and drive it home, but I should still be able to have it for this weekend.
