some many questions left unanswered
I reached out BNR a month or two ago and they simply said that there is no release date as of yet.
Whitesmoke hasn't posted anything in over a year, I wonder what happened to him. He really got us all excited and then disappeared.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why would you want to relocate the oil filter on a 1.4?
I have three Sonics, two with 1.8 and one with 1.4. There is a large turbo hose/tube that you need to flex slightly out of the way to change the oil filter (24 mm 1/2 drive deep socket reaches past the tube onto the cap perfectly) on the 1.4.
I drain the oil for 5-10 minutes first and I've NEVER spilled a drop of used oil anywhere on the 1.4. The 1.8's always drop some used oil on the exhaust manifold/heat shield.

I imagine the real benefit is for those that have upgraded the intercooler with the hard charge pipes. I would think you would have to detach it from the throttle body every time. For those of us still with soft hose, its not a big deal but there is the benefit of the extra oil capacity.

I don't see why a spin-on filter is better. Rockauto has great prices on the drop-in filters and they come in a variety of quality levels.
BMW and Mercedes have been using drop-ins for a long time - even the Daimler Chrysler 3.2 liter V6 has a drop-in filter on the top.
Not 100% sure why manufacturers switched to drop-in filters, but when I was driving a Saturn with an early version of 2.2L Ecotech engine I was told that it was for environmental reasons - far less spilled oil when doing an oil change and easier to collect the used oil out of the cartridge.

Because I’m sick of taking my charge pipe loose to do an oil change. [emoji23]
It also increases oil capacity a little, which is never a bad idea. BNR says this conversion runs at 10°F cooler oil temps. Mine sits right around 240-245° now, so it wouldn’t hurt my feelings to see that go down some.

I tried making a post on BNR’s fb page early last Dec. but they never approved it to be posted. I have a feeling they scrapped it...

That kinda sucks. More oil would be more better.
One more question. I've rebuild the motor new head hoses timing chain ect. You name it it's now new. But after a few days I'm starting to hear noise from the timing chain.
I keep reading it's the oils draining out of the head and the chain and phases are dry.
One person points to a check valve in the block. No such thing. I found it in the timing chain cover on the lower right side. It was just above the oil flow valve. Any ideas would help. I'm about to replace the cover with the oilpump. But I'm really sick of this car. I've been working on it for months chasing this and that. It had a blown head gasket a day that were it started. Like I said everything is new except the block.
This is on a 2014 sonic 1.4 turbo LUV.
