Oil, interval and the DIC

Hi all new to sonic land and wondering based on the lack of detail in the owners manual regarding oil & interval what folks are thinking.

First I am somewhat confused by how to read the remaining oil life on the dash. when I use menu to swtich the the ODO windo it shows me the can but no percentage say reset in the window? do you just wait until you get an 82 code?

On other I4s I use Castrol 0W30 edge Spt made in Germany European formula. I can routinely get 10K on interval based on oil analysis

I searched Oil and did not see any obvious threads so here it is

Use menu to get away from the odometer then use the thumbwheel to change between all the options.

There should be remaining oil life, language, units and tire learn.

The right oil is a dexos1® approved 5W-30.

If you experience extreme cold, you can use a dexos1® approved 0W-30 (Extreme Cold is -29C or -20F)

yea its a 6-speed and thanks for the instructions. was expecting the percentage to be next to the oil can not in the speedo window (epic fail).

The owners manual sucks. it does not even list capacity (I assume 5qt)

So does anyone know how the monitor system know the quality of the oil in the sump. GC at 9 dollar a qt will last a long time whereas a cheap 5W30 will not. Is the monitor simply scoring driving style and drive cycles or does it monitor actual luberication quality?

To the best of my knowledge, GM uses a system that calculates it based on the RPMs of the engine and duration at that RPM.

Im changing mine at 600 miles i remember my 1.8 had metal in the oil up until 15k when i traded her in

The owners manual does list it. It's in the back. If you have a 1.4 I believe it's 4.2 qt( correct me if I'm wrong) 1.8 is 4.8 qt.

4.2qt or 4.0L for the 1.4T engine oil capacity
4.8qt or 4.5L for the 1.8 engine oil capacity
This is listed in the back of the owners manual.

Wow that seems excessive. I only had metal my first oil change

It was going down but i changed it every 2k up until 15k there was still shiny bits.. hopefully the 1.4 isnt the same.. its.funny i bet most to all oil change places just put 4 or 5 quarts. I just had my little transit van oil changed it takes 4.5 sheet says 5 quarts i checked it its way overfilled... hmm

Don't bother with the .2qt... 4qt will fill it close enough to the top to call it a day.

+/- A LITTLE wouldn't hurt a thing. .2 is enough that I don't worry about it
