I'm going to up the size on piping to 2 1/2 inches and want to get a quiet muffler but don't know which muffler to look at because I have a lot of drone inside
Ok headers = a lot louder

No is that going to be super quiet and you mean long right when you say 18" res

yea bro. like my glasspack is 24", and then I got a fart can.. but I was considering changing like I said to a thrust turbo. cheap quiet muffler,.. then maybe a twin loop out the back.. or a thrush welded. but I fear the thrush welded will make it sound more like a truck.. lol I was considering going as high as 3".. I want a deep mean sound..

I wouldn't say super quite, I had that set up on my 1.4 with no cats and it sounded great. With your 1.8 it will end up being a little louder since you don't have a turbo reducing exhaust noise.

Would just a muffler quiet it down? Because I like my car when it backfires when I down shift

I've done everything I can to stop our Model A at work from backfiring when you shift.
