Orion Plant Holding Lots as of 08/13/2011

On my way to a retirement party in Waterford, I swung by the Orion Plant, where I observed the north lot about 90% full (I guess it would hold about 1000 units if full) and the main lot (guessing 3-4000 if full) about 50%. It looks to me like cars could be appearing in dealerships during the last week of August. White and light grey dominated the color mix. No pictures as it was raining.

I called a few Chev dealerships here in the MN area and got three different responses regarding Sonic arrival:

1: First place said they were expecting their first shipment before the end of the month.

2: Second place said based on the fact production began at the beginning of August, they said its usually 4-8 weeks before they take delivery.

3: Third place said they were probably still 2-3 months out.

I hope place one was right! Now I just need to get rid of this Exploder....

I would say the first dealer will prove to be correct.
Although the first official day of production was August 1, initial production began July 18: From GMInside News:

Sounds like today's official start date for manufacturing was mainly for PR purposes.
We've been gearing up for weeks, but this is the start of building hundreds per day instead of hundreds per week. I would say we've already built 600 cars.

The above quotes came from GM Inside News.
There were no blues. The cars were parked in end to in in groups of a hundred or more and for me the reds all blurred together, but white and light grey clearly dominated.
GM hold initial production for three weeks in case there something arises that needs repair. That means the July and first week of August cars will probably start going on the carriers Friday at the earliest or early next week. I would be surprised if the first retail deliveries do not take place before Labor Day.
