Our gas guzzling Element was driving my last nerve with it horrendous fuel mileage.

My wife and I decided to sacrifice excessive utility for excessive mpg and new vehicle warranty.

We are near Metro Detroit in downriver area and I work for Ford. This is my/our first Chevy.

Just curious - wouldn't you get better pricing on a Fiesta? Did you like the Sonic that much better? I never test drove a Fiesta which is why I'm asking - one of the reasons is because of my GM Supplier pricing - I was pretty much going with the Sonic no matter what.

I would have received employee pricing and $2000 in total rebates on a Fiesta.

But I would have hated every day behind the wheel. I also simply do not like small displacement non turbo engines and the fiesta doesn't have the 1.0l option yet.

This car is worlds better and actually is fun to drive. Storage is questionable but we can make it work.

I was test driving a Fiesta at my local combined Ford/Chevy dealer. It was, well, OK, and that was also true of the other things I'd tried in the segment. I've been a Ford owner most of my life, so all things being equal I was gonna go with the Fiesta, but since I was already on the lot, I decided to take a Sonic out as well.

The ride was more solid, and the "kick in the pants" feel of driving it was so much better, I just can't imagine picking the Fiesta or any of the other cars I'd driven..

That said, I'm pretty sure if I actually worked for Ford, I'd have picked something in the Ford line and told management they had to give it to me for less than the cost of a Sonic. I don't think I'd have the nerve to park a competitor's car in my boss's lot. Then again, I've been self employed for 25 years now, I probably have no real idea what working for a big corporation is like these days!

I work on them everyday. Know them and their problems inside and out.

I didn't ever consider it for a purchase when shopping.

Also. I work mainly on prototypes. And knowing what's in the pipeline made me want to stick with a platform that's good now and not about the be good in two years as we need a good car now and not one we will regret.

The Fiesta is a solid little product but I don't want one and the Focus has too many transmission problems in lieu how much i like those.
