You're not going to get a large enough mileage difference to offset the cost of it, basically no car does.
In post number 1, MPG increase was not the consideration. A bit better performance was since the ECM does not pull timing like it does using 87 octane. This can be seen using a good OBD II scanner.
The difference is noticeable especially at RPMs in the +3,500 to $4,200 range.
