Prices on coilovers or spring install?

Don't have garage or tools to do it myself. Shops want $600 to install springs. Is that high? Feels like it..

For 200 bucks you can buy literally all the tools you need to do it. You need a jack, spring compresser, and some hand tools


I would have a very hard time spending that much just I have someone install springs

You can rent a spring compressor from an auto parts store and get your money back upon returning it. A jack, jack stands, socket set and breaker bar is all you really need. Impact gun/compressor makes things easier though.

$600 is way overpriced.
Your local autozone should lend you the spring compressors for free.
I'd say $200 max, although even then it's not too bad of an install.

I was able to install Cruze coilovers on my Sonic with help from a few friends, and I was a complete neophyte at working with cars at the time. (The day I did it was also the day I changed oil on a car for the first time ever. 0_o)

My guess is the shops you asked didnt want the job so they bid it way high. That way if you did bite they'd rake you over the coals

Figuring you wouldn't is fine because they didn't want the job anyway. See it all the time man.

Dont know where you are in the PNW but English Racing are in Camas and are an awesome group of guys. They are mostly an AWD shop but a spring install I'm sure they'd do for you without getting ass reamed

Honestly I had never installed coilovers before but now that I did mine, it isn't that hard. I didn't even use a spring compressor.

you dont need a spring compressor for coilovers.

go to harbor freight and gets some tools buddy, itll be $300 for all the good **** with lifetime warranty. its also good to have around.

With most coilovers, you wouldn't need compressors because the coilovers would come with top hats. The problem here though is that most of the coilovers out there for the Sonic don't come with top hats so you would want spring compressors to remove and reuse the oem top hat from your stock suspension.

idk how Ubryaj did it, but better safe than sorry In My Humble Opinion. Springs can be dangerous if removed improperly. (besides, compressors are usually free to rent at Autozone)
