For anyone still interested, I had already stripped alot of panels from my car (weight reduction) so getting to this was pretty easy and I apparently had already removed those screws. you can pop the wire harness by hand its not super snug, and then jimmying it is the hard part. whence it's out, yea if you do it how he says, OnStar light on the mirror turns red but still has activity, and bluetooth works. If you just remove the whole module though, the light is off, and I tried the "call advisor" button on the radio and it just said something about failing etc. It looks like my phone was still connected via bluetooth, so thats cool. I also have direct acess to the wires for the XM antenna, so I might pull those too.
Don't forget, if your concern is keeping Bluetooth, you can buy a £25 Schosh which goes in a cigarette lighter, uses bluetooth to your phone and processes on the radio with am fm.
If I remember right, pulling the antenna wires makes the compass and temp show --, and then Android Auto sporatically works. I had tried to pull the wires because AA would always immedietly play my music when connected even though I turned off the setting
I have a ScanBuddy in my OBD for diag and other info since Chevy didnt think I need to know engine temp, and I'm not sure if that rumor helps, but I'll let you know. I was also gonna check later for that fuse
