Protection Plan for tires?

I drove over a screw and now I have a flat. I searched the forum and found a post by someone who said their GM Protection Plan covered the replaced tire, that the tires were covered for 5 years. I looked into my own plan and it does NOT cover the replacement of a tire. Does anyone know what's the deal? Is there a GM plan for situations like running over a nail? I'm confused how this person said that their repair/replacement was covered.

I had an option for a tire warranty when I bought my car, had to pay extra.
