No, no official document to that affect. It seemed like a judgement call on their part as to whether it was covered at all. I talked to the parts department early on in the process, and they were the ones that came to the conclusion that it would be total replacement or no coverage at all, because they couldn't find any internal parts at all. There are parts for the 5 speed but none for the 6 speed. Also, the other dealership I tried, when I had the original grinding while going into third problem, said that they have not been issued the tools needed to open the 6 speed, so they too said it's a total replace or nothing deal. They quoted around $2600 for the replace, by the way.
I imagine the tools and parts will become available eventually, so I doubt it will ever be the official position that total replace is always the plan. After all eventually we will start seeing people with over 100K miles, and I assume nobody shelling out their own cash for a job that should mean 4 hours labor and a $20 part will be eager to pay to swap in a new unit every time.
