There are many YT videos for how to replace the thermostat housing for code P0597, but none of the engines have this part in the way, so no videos show whether to work around it or to remove it:
It seems to be plastic, has a wire connection going to it, and that black plastic pipe runs to it, across the front of the engine. It seems to be mounted on a strong metal shelf/bracket with 3 bolts to the engine block. It feels like an incredibly strong bracket for what seems like a lightweight plastic part.
What is it? Why do only some engines have it? Mine is a 1.8L MT.
Should I remove it to make replacing the thermostat housing easier?
