Ridiculous Yet Possible Ideas (drivetrain swap)

This question is for the mechanics on here that know our sonics very well.

What do you think would be a realistic drivetrain swap for our sonics? I vaguely remember the idea of a full evo swap (engine, trans, AWD system) into the sonic. How realistic would this be exactly?

We do have quite a bit of room under the hood and the only really difficult part (in my unprofessional mind) would be the fabrication involved with the rear drive section of the AWD system and independent rear suspension

I also remember reading about the Chevy Trax AWD system having a chance at fitting under there, however, that car is practically brand new and would obviously be much more expensive than hitting a junk yard and coming up with some kind of biracial/Frankenstein combination

I guess this could be a continuation of the "Dream Sonic" thread...except from more realistic perspective. What IS possible in the world of AWD and 350 horsepower for the sonic in the form of a drivetrain swap?

Id Just go buy an older dsm AWD if you can find one cheap enough and swap. Then i could easily have a 400hp sonic

Only swap I know of being done is for a rally car. But it was a Frankenstein of a car, I think it said it had a R32 rear end. Thread is somewhere on here.

As far as the trax is concerned the awd is only available with the auto trans. But I'll be buying the wife one here in a month or so, I'll check under her rear end and see if it will fit.

Anything is possible with enough money and knowledge. Hell back when I had my Mitsubishi galant, us guys were swapping in evo 4g63's and gsx rear ends.

I'd love to do a LS4 engine and 6spd F40 Trans swap into the sonic. I know clearance is a big issue.

I have a Sonic hatch and an Evo X... dare me to try? The Sonic engine bay looks a little small. Might work if you replaced all the subframes and did a ton of cutting and wielding. Not sure what the point would be. If you want a 350hp AWD car, buy an AWD car.

A) It will be a lot of money and time. Might literally be cheaper to sell the Sonic and buy a Trax. Don't do it.

B) I want to do this so badly. Pioneer it, figure it all out, take lots of pictures, and post a how to for me. I figure the -second- Sonic with a Trax AWD swap will only cost a couple grand. So sure, do it! You'll also have other Trax parts to play with, after all, maybe you can make your money back parting it out.
