RPM Limiter at Launch?

i actually like the that it limits the rpms i launch at 2500-3000 depending on weather conditions and i usually get a perfect launch every time. i drove my buddys 2012 civic si and it was a lot harder to launch with. the throttle was to touchy on it i would barely touch it and it would redline like nothing aha

Is this with pressing the clutch or not pressing the clutch pedal?

Both. Did not seem to make a difference.

This was one of the first things I noticed when I got the car. I have also been to the track, when you drop the clutch it's not a good thing. Not used to a 1.4l car my camaro would light up 16 wide tires in 3rd gear, and the race clutch it had could not be feathered. Something I got used to on the sonic. The feathered take off helps a lot, not enough torque to spin them at the track and u get real bad wheel hop. Plus feathering allows u to keep the boost up.

Not sure when in 2012 mine was manufactured I bought in 2013 but my 2012 doesn't have a limiter at a stop at all.

I guess there is something about the Sonic's front suspension that causes the wheels to lift under load.

I'm assuming all of these people with limiters in place on their MT cars don't have a trifecta tune, correct?

I believe wheel "hop" is a bit of a misnomer. It is not that the wheels are going up and down so much as forward and back. Wheels pull forward relative to movement of the car until traction is lost, at which point they return to normal alignment, traction is restored and the cycle repeats itself.

Traction is lost because the downward pressure on the wheel is reduced (hop). Not sure on the "forward and back" part?

This happens because of how leaf spring suspensions work.

I just told you. Wheels move forward relative to car. Massive change in toe alignment ensues, resulting in loss of traction. Again, not up and down, but forward and back.

I read the article and all I can say is in the two videos I posted as well as what I have seen in person the wheels are clearly bouncing vertically relative to the vehicle.


My best guess right now is there must be multiple causes of "wheel hop". The leaf spring kind most certainly results in vertical movement and I doubt a beefy solid truck axle results in much change in toe. By beefy, I'm of course referring to larger trucks (250/2500 350/3500 etc), not the cheesy S10s.

Honestly, this reminds me of the whole brake rotor warping vs uneven coating arguments. Personally I think rotors do become untrue and I do think the surface wears unevenly so I think both arguments are true in that case.

I had a feeling that's what you were doing, but I wasn't sure.

I can easily see the Sonic's alignment getting all screwed up under strain.
