Rumor: Chevy Sonic SS in the Works??

^It's funny how you say that Chevy/GM is trying to lure the young customers when most of the owners on here are hella freaking old lmao! I guess we like all those crazyass commercials hahaha!!!

Yup, the automotive trend nowadays is small displacement turbo engines that give really good gas mileage & power. No replacement for displacement, ha, it's called "turbo" & it's making a big comeback, almost every car company is using it now.

Just to clarify, there is no replacement for displacement. Take a built 2.0 vs. a built 5.0. The 5.0 will make more power. Slap a turbo on the 2.0 and they can be close; slap a turbo on the 5.0, and it's again not even close.

Another possible thought could be that GM is "trolling-the-waters" to see what the public reaction is to a Sonic SS.

If there's enough support… maybe they'll look into it. But there's only so much you can do with FWD.

If GM wants a serious subcompact muscle car, then I think the 130R would be the way to go! But again, that may be years in the making.

Engineering to manufacturing time has been cut to about 18 to 24 months so if a model was already built for show it can be as little as 12 months from start of production.

Yeah, that's why I think GM will cap the sonic's 1.6 up to 180 territory- anything over 200 and they might be pushing it in this platform.

I don't remember the powertrain choice GM chose for the 130R, but the 1.6 in its intended tune would be a good match, and if Toyota takes off with the FRS, GM at least has an answer to it.

I think the context of laborsmith's camaro statement is that between a potential sonic ss and the 130r, if a serious buyer wanted to buy a sports car, people are gonna get the 130r over a sonic, as it better fits right under the lineup of GM's current entry sports car, the camaro.

Which is why these are the 2 main cars I would consider trading my sonic for lol

Talks of an ATS-V do however put it right in line with the introduction of the GenV small block V8

But a V8 ATS-VR would not have been possible if Chevy had not insisted that the platform accommodate a V8.
