well boys and girls im saying goodbye to my sonic. After multiple check engine lights with no fix and an overall loss of confidence in the vehicle im saying goodbye to it. I was never able to get my surging issue fixed and I just picked up the car from the dealer due to the worn wastegate rod causing an underboost code "which the dealer refuses to fix because I have an air intake"! I hope everyone has a much better experience with their sonics and I appreciate the support and knowledge this forum has provided.

Why not just take it to some other dealer? Your surging could just be a vac leak from the valve cover

ive taken it to 3 different dealers and they all say "the intake is causing it" tried swapping the intake back to stock and they say "we cant duplicate it" and they clear the codes and send me packing.

I think you'll be happier with just about anything else. Our Sonic will be going down the road in the fall. We have had so many problems with ours. It has been in the shop every 3-4 months since we bought it new. GM will not cover anything after the 36k mark so we have had to put on the sixth set of swaybar linkages,intake duct and a thermostat,all in the last month alone. None of which should have failed already. It would be gone already but we decided to upgrade the truck first. Traded my 2011 Silverado for a 2015 Tundra SR5 TRD. I could not bring myself to buy another Chevy after the disaster that has been the Sonic, which will morph into a Camry in September/October. Have fun with whatever you buy. I absolutely love my Tundra. Your right in thanking everyone on this forum... A bunch of top notch guys on here for sure. They helped me a lot.

It amazes me how 1 single car can make up your mind on a whole brand, especially an entry level economy car. I have owned numerous GM cars and have never had issues with them. In fact, I have a 2007 HHR right now with over 210,000 miles that I have only had to do bushings on the control arms and sway bar at worst. Not to mention my Sonic that has 30,000 miles and has never gone to the dealership in the two years I have owned it. I have owned plenty others with no real issues. For every one person that has a bad experience with one brand, there are usually 100's more that have no issues. I hardly get on this site anymore because this type of stuff is all I ever see now. People bitching about the Sonic and Chevy in general isn't any good. Maybe not to you, but there are plenty that love Chevy. And to give you the idea, I have owned a 93 GMC Jimmy, 95 Pontiac Grand Prix, 01 Pontiac Grand Prix, 04 Chevy Colorado, 90 Chevy C1500, 06 Chevy Cobalt, 01 Chevy Camaro, 07 Chevy HHR, 11 Chevy HHR, and my 13 Chevy Sonic. I have also owned a 97 Ford Explorer, 93 Toyota Pickup, 64 Ford Galaxie, and 94 Toyota Corolla. I have never had problems with any of these vehicles that I would warrant as anything more than normal maintenance. I am not an easy on a vehicle either. I also have a tendency to modify my vehicles which usually hurts the realibilty. That's my 2 cents. Sorry for the rant.

Most people who get a bad meal or bad service at a restaurant NEVER go back.

Sounds like OP was screwed over by the dealer and also screwed over by a problematic car, so why would he buy another Chevy to risk the same issues?

A good dealer makes all the difference. I've had a bunch of minor body issues -- rattles, mainly -- but they've all been fixed with a smile and a loaner. Other than the idiot decision to use plastic end links, seat softness, and the slightly rattly interior fitments, the Sonic seems to me to stack up equal to, or better than, B-class competition. As it probably should do, with a C-class powertrain and weight.

Quite a few people have mentioned problems with plastic end links. Just wondering, is there a typical mileage when these problems pop up? I'm up to 5000 miles w/o problem so far on my 2015 LS. Thanks.

There is no typical mileage. Most see what others are saying that they go bad and then automatically assume their's are bad. I'm at 29,000+ miles and I have had zero issues. Still the stock endlinks. It has also been lowered almost half those miles.

I was at 32k when I traded in my 2012 LT. No issues with front end links and my route to work isn't very smooth
