Service Vehicle Soon Light Blinked!

Hi all
My "Service Vehicle Soon Light" (Chevrolet Sonic Owner's Manual: Service Vehicle Soon Light - Warning Lights, Gauges, and Indicators - Instruments and Controls) blinked this morning while driving to work. No error number appeared. So i pulled over and restarted the car, and safely drove and arrived to office.

My last service was Feb 2015, and according to the 9 month rule, I should be servicing in Nov 2015 which is next month, and my mileage between Feb-Oct has just exceeded 10K.

My questions goes - is the indicator is just a 'smart' reminder to tell us that hey, its time to service soon, OR

There are some malfunctioning happening?

Anyone with similar experience? Advice appreciated.

might not hurt to go to an autoparts store and have them pull the codes (if there are any)...

Not sure on gentle reminder, but what is your oil life %?

We have a 2012 Sonic LT Hatchback. For the past few months, the "Service Vehicle Soon Light" always shows up when starting the car. However, no error number appears. Also, the normal driver information center (DIC) display doesn't show the usual information. However, pressing the MENU button on the turn signal stalk clears the "Service Vehicle Soon Light" and restores the normal DIC info. This has to be done every time we drive the car.

I've also used a OBDII scanner to check for any codes and nothing shows. The car has been recently serviced (fan motor needed to be replaced and also had a scheduled oil change) subsequent to the "Service Vehicle Soon Light" problem, but the "Service Vehicle Soon Light" indicator still appears.

Any suggestions on why the "Service Vehicle Soon Light" appears without any associated codes?
P.S., we re approaching 100,000 miles and are very happy with the car.

IIRC it blinking means a misfire. If it only happens once or twice it may not be enough for it to actually set a code.
