Shifter slow to return to center?

I just did a fluid change on my 2013 Sonic LT turbo with 6 speed MT. Used AMSoil Synchromesh and put in about 2.4 quarts. No fill plug on the trans. Car has 83k miles, first fluid change from factory.

I noticed the shifter no longer wants to return to center very fast. Should this go away as I drive it? I drove a couple laps of the parking lot but haven't gone anywhere yet. Should I drain some out?

I searched but couldn't find anything relating to the shifter going back to center slowly. Thanks for the help!

Whats the capacity listed in the manual ?

Just looked, says see dealer.

However online says 2.0-2.4 quarts, cruze forums say 2.4 is now dealer recommended because of heat issues.

Here's a pic of how much fluid I have left of the third quart. Around 22 ounces.

Drained the fluid out, put 2 quarts in, closed it up, still happening. At this point it's either in the linkage or the fluid messed something up. Gonna get correct fluid, do another change, then bring it to the dealer and let them fix it.

Very odd. I used Amsoil 75w90 in mine and didn't have a problem. The synchromesh is a 5w30, so it should be thinner. Check the cable adjustment, maybe somehow it's off

I'm feeling cable too... as it if pinched or pulled somehow....

Shifts with ease? Just slowly goes back to the "center" when in neutral?

Shifts better, but not perfect. A good friend said he's seen this at his Subaru dealer and it was due to improper fluid. I'm wondering if something was messed up and the new fluid got it messed up. I didn't touch cables but wouldn't mind looking them over. Tips?

have the car lifted, see if anything is hitting any part of the linkages. I'm not sure that's it... it's a good place to look but if they were bent or such I think you'd feel more of a notch in shifting & such, and perhaps not even be able to hit all the gears... Or jack stands and someone sit inside and go through the gears with the car off, while you look at it underneath....... CAREFULLY

Just an update on this.

Just got it checked out at the dealer. They are fixing a P0299 code and a leaking valve cover, and while it's in there I asked them to investigate what's going on with the shifter.

They said their trans guy says the trans itself is fine, the cables or shifter are the culprit but to go any further will be charges as it's external to the powertrain itself. So I guess I'll look over the cables again, see if it's binding there. If not, guess I'll live with it.

I did put 2 quarts of OEM fluid back into it a few days after I put the AMSoil in it. No fill plug, but their books said 2 quarts so that's what I went with.

Still blows my mind it happened 100 ft. from where I changed the fluid and they say it's not related.
