side exit exhaust

curious what peoples thoughts are on having a side exit exhaust that comes out infront of the left rear wheel on the sonic?

The reason I ask is I plan on making a custom exhaust removing the 2nd cat on back. I have a glasspack and a good section of 2.5id. Straight pipe, however making the bends over the axle will be challenging as I don't have a lift and have to do this without a mandrel.

So after looking under the car I noticed that the 1st big bend after the resonator aims the exhaust right out the side of the car in front of the LR tire. So it gave me the idea of just going for a side exit exhaust as it would be A lot easier to do and would be unique..

What are your thoughts?

My buddy had a 3" straight pipe out the side of his SRT-4. It was loud as holy hell. Looked mean too.

2 for 2 on the likeing isn't bad.

I was worried about it looking to ricer! Or odd on this car
Me other worry is ground clearence. But I'm thinking a rectangular exh tip will help in that regard..

I personally would not opt for multiple pipes. Just one works for me .

This! or even just the dual exit rear which has always looked way better to me than any single exit exhaust set up. Dual exhaust always=RACE CAR If I ever end up getting around to having a custom exhaust fabbed up I would like to do dual exit somewhere strictly because I like the look a lot better than a single tail pipe.

Don't forget the famous Audi Quattros had a single exit dual tip IIRC. You can't get more race than those!

I like it. Side exit with dual square or rectangular tips.

I was gonna do this too, after seeing a few members on here having it & the famous "kick flip" Super Sonic, but after talking to my local custom exhaust guy I changed my mind. He said it might start melting the side panels if I lower it due to the low clearance in that spot, plus it'll be a huge cop magnet coming out the side. It would be hella loud though, just like my old SRT-4 which had this exact setup. I might still go CB straight pipe, but out the rear, but there's way too much popo activity here where I live, might not be worth it in the end. I don't wanna deal with fix-it tix or harassment at all, especially with a damn 'lil Sonic lol!

I was concerned about the heat also, mainly on the e-brake. if I go this route I'll be using some sheet metal tacked to the pipe as a heat shield and maybe some heat tape on some parts just as an added precaution..

I'm not too worried about the noise. Right now my exhaust ends after the 2nd cat and as long as i short shift its fairly quite. I'll just have to remember to keep the cops to the right of me when the pull up lol..

Also any recall which build threads had this setup?? I'd love to check it out

WHen I first put the turbo on my 02 Z24 I had a 2.5" down pipe and and a WG dump that both ended at the rear of the lower subframe. Didnt get to many looks from cops. The 3" exhaust with almost no muffler wasnt any quieter though.
