Threw my money down today on a 2012 1.4 white sedan in stick, never having even been in one. Well... kind of lol. I test drove a auto hatch. But until tomorrow, or Saturday whenever it comes in, it'll be the first time I have laid eyes on the sedan.
They didn't have a single sedan on the lot, and weren't going to get any in for about a month according to "sales dude." So I pulled the trigger knowing if it was absolutely hideous, or didn't fit my 6' 3" frame I could get my money back.
Originally I was going to lease a "nicer" car... then I thought nah, I'll buy. Drove a few around when I got to thinking about what I really needed in a car. It didn't take long to note that a smaller, gas sipping car was really all I needed.
So I test drove that Sonic auto, and no it wasn't love at first sight as I had just been in a few cars before hand looking, so it kind of was becoming a job.
The sales rep was great though having dealt with my wife for years, and with her beside me, when he handed me the keys he said, "see you in an hour."
The wife and I took that little thing all over town. Me out of town, then her back in. At first the car spooked me. The brake pedal was so mushy it freaked me out a bit. Then that electronic steering was so sensitive... well I didn't want to gun it as I wasn't convinced my reactions would be accurate if I got in trouble.
But those initial fears really faded quickly. I guess you just get used to what you get used to. But like I said, in 10 minutes we were all good to go. My wife on the other hand, took to it right out of the gate lol.
Anyway, that thing was just an absolute blast to drive! My wife just thought it was great too!
So I did my H/W, read a bit here and well, as I said, today I put my money down. Really glad I did. Practical might not be as sexy as muscle but this little Sonic is a blast to drive around town, and the savings over even the next segment higher is considerable! 5K goes a long way!
Anyway - that's my story - I'll post pictures when it gets in!
