So I have a 1.8L and it wasn't acting right. the AC was getting spotty and I thought it was an electrical issue. So I checked the fuses, wires, ac speed knob.
The symptoms were this: sometimes the blower would start when I would go over bumps, and sometimes not. After 3 months of checking everything else to try and get out of it without cutting open my blower motor housing (to replace it.) I finally went to auto zone and got a new blower motor got home and cut out the old one.
Once I got the damn thing out and replaced with the new one. I was going to take the old one to the trash when I heard a rattle, I looked down and between the blades and the motor housing was a loose screw FROM THE FACTORY! It was scraped up and worn down in places. It was actually what was slowing and stopping the fan speed!
Going over bumps would jar it enough to get it to turn for a while.
Needless to say I cant believe the carelessness of production. if you drop a screw inside an AC housing get a magnet and fish the damn thing out!
